Frequently Asked Questions

What are your practice hours?

My practice hours are 6.30pm to 8.30pm Mondays (Winchester) 10.00am to 2.00pm Tuesdays (Odiham), and and 1.30pm to 4.30pm Thursdays (Winchester). An answerphone message may greet you if I am available during these hours. Please leave your contact details and I will call you as soon as I able.

Are sessions confidential?

All personal information is regarded with the utmost respect for your privacy and remains confidential at all times during treatment and after sessions have come to an end. It is vital for you to be able to put trust in our relationship and know that you can talk openly and honestly about your thoughts and feelings.

On exceptionally rare occassions, there may be a requirement for confidentiality to be broken for legal and/or ethical reasons - eg, where a court order demands disclosure or if there is reason to believe that there is a danger of significant harm to the client and/or others. In the unlikely event of this situation I would endeavour to prewarn you of a break of confidentiality. This is in accordance with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) Code of Ethics & Conduct.

The NCH place great importance on ongoing training and quality control. Anonymous case histories may be discussed with a qualified supervisor. No names or identifying details are used at any time.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, but only if they want to be. We all go in and out of trances every day. This is a perfectly natural occurance. Have you ever been driving and found yourself so absorbed in your thoughts that you take the wrong exit? Or maybe you reached your destination with no recollection of the journey? Have you ever searched frantically for your car keys and then found them in the same place you looked several times? Maybe you've spend time waiting for a phone call or a visit to the dentist and the hours have dragged by? Or you've been so absorbed in a good book that you've lost all perception of time? These are all examples of how we are all able to experience a trance state.

Will I be made to say or do something stupid?

A Hypnotherapist is not be able to force you to do anything you would not feel comfortable with, or which would breach your sense of right and wrong.

Will I be able to wake up?

Yes, this is a naturally occuring state that we all experience on a daily basis. If you were left in a trance, you would either fall asleep and wake naturally or just get bored and open your eyes.

Will I remember anything from the session?

The vast majority of people will remain aware of everything of their experience, and will remember most, if not all, of what they or the therapist said in the session. If you want to remember then you generally will.

Do people ever lose control in hypnosis?

You are in control at all times. A hypnotherapist is not able to have control over you. In fact, because of the state of heightened awareness experienced during hypnosis, it is possible for your mind to be aware of infinitely more things than is possible in the conscious state.

How many sessions will I need?

Sessions are specifically tailored to the client and the problem with which they seek help, so this is generally something best discussed on an individual basis. The first session is often a chance for us to meet, for me to discover more detail about your particular issue and how if affects you, and then agree on how I can best help you. I will endeavour to discuss with you what to expect from each session in advance.

Some simple problems, such as smoking or phobias, may be dealt with in a single session, whereas more complex and deeply rooted problems could require more sessions. My aim is to help you in the shortest number of sessions possible. A treatment program is a constantly evolving process which should be regularly reviewed. Each session lasts approximately 1 hour.

How much does a session cost?

Sessions are £65hr. Each session is paid for individually so no need to book a series of sessions that you may not use. Please be aware that missed sessions and those cancelled with less than 48hrs notice will incur the full cost.
